Dermatologists often play a critical role in diagnosing fusariosis, as greater than 70% of patients with disseminated infections have cutaneous involvement, and microbiologic evaluation of skin specimens provides the diagnosis in the majority of cases. Second-generation triazoles are typically the most effective medications in treating invasive Fusarium infections, and we discuss the benefits of using these medications, as well as detail the side effects of these therapeutic agents.

Disseminated fusariosis occurring in two patients despite posaconazole prophylaxis.
Posaconazole is widely used for prophylaxis against invasive fungal infections in patients undergoing myeloablative therapy. Disseminated fusariosis is a serious invasive mold infection in such patients. Preclinical and clinical studies indicate activity of posaconazole against Fusarium. We describe two cases of disseminated fusariosis that occurred despite posaconazole prophylaxis.
متن کاملEfficacy of posaconazole as treatment and prophylaxis against Fusarium solani.
Invasive fusariosis is a highly aggressive fungal infection associated with high mortality in heavily immunocompromised patients. Although posaconazole is efficacious as salvage therapy against infections caused by Fusarium species, concerns remain regarding this agent in the setting of reduced potency. To evaluate the efficacy of posaconazole as treatment or prophylaxis against invasive fusari...
متن کاملScedosporium prolificans: an emerging pathogen in France?
For the last ten years, non-Aspergillus mold species have been increasingly involved in human invasive infections, probably as a consequence of more intense immunosuppression and prolonged patient survival, and of selective pressure since antifungal agents are currently used for prophylaxis or therapy. Scedosporium prolificans, one of these emerging fungi, has been isolated in a broad spectrum ...

Background. Cannabis has evolved from being an illicit psychotropic drug, to now being recommended by many oncologists as an appetite stimulant and antiemetic. Marijuana contamination with molds such as Aspergillus, Mucor and Fusarium has been reported. Molds causing a nodular pneumonia, and bronchiolitis miliary micronodular pattern, both related to smoking marijuana have been well described i...
متن کاملInfections due to Phialemonium species: case report and review.
Abstract Infections caused by rarely encountered fungal pathogens have increased in recent decades. The present study describes a disseminated infection caused by Phialemonium curvatum, and reviews the literature in an effort to summarize prior experiences with this unusual pathogen. The clinical and microbiological characteristics of a new case due to Phialemonium are presented. The case is an...
